Laquita McGowan: A Life of Purpose and Passion
From the moment I can remember, I have always been drawn to people—their stories, their struggles, and their triumphs. My life has been a journey of learning, leading, and inspiring, shaped by faith, education, and an unwavering passion for helping others reach their full potential.
I was born with an innate desire to make a difference, and that desire led me on a path toward education and psychology. With a degree in Industrial Organizational Psychology, I developed a deep understanding of human behavior, motivation, and personal development. However, my calling extended beyond the corporate world. My heart belonged in the classroom, where I could directly impact the lives of young minds. That realization inspired me to pursue a master’s in education, equipping me with the tools to nurture and guide students toward success.
Today, I have the privilege of teaching 8th-grade English Language Arts and Reading at Inspired Vision. In my classroom, I strive to create an environment where students feel seen, heard, and empowered. My background in psychology allows me to connect with them beyond academics, helping them navigate their emotions, set goals, and develop resilience. Witnessing their growth and achievements fuels my passion and reinforces my purpose.
Beyond the classroom, I embrace my roles as a wife, mother, and youth leader at my church. These roles are not separate from my work but extensions of who I am—a mentor, a nurturer, and a guide. My faith has been the cornerstone of my journey, providing strength and wisdom as I navigate life’s challenges and joys.
Black History and Women’s Month holds a special place in my heart. It is a time to celebrate greatness, honor legacies, and recognize the perseverance and brilliance of those who came before us. I strive to instill this same appreciation in my students, encouraging them to embrace their history, find their voices, and write their own legacies.
One of my favorite quotes is from Muhammad Ali: “To be a great champion you must believe you are the best. If you’re not, pretend you are.” This mindset has guided me through my own struggles, reminding me that confidence and perseverance are key to overcoming obstacles. I share this wisdom with my students, urging them to believe in themselves even when the world tells them otherwise.
As I continue my journey, my mission remains clear: to inspire, educate, and uplift. Whether in the classroom, at home, or in my community, my goal is to leave a lasting impact—one that empowers others to rise, dream, and achieve beyond their wildest imagination.
